According to a new British study, 3 in 5 people who try a single cigarette on tobacco. According to those surveyed, at least 60% had already tried a cigarette and around 69% were regular smokers. The study’s results only confirm the researcher’s suspicions: tobacco is extremely addictive.
Stay away from the temptation of cigarettes
In order to avoid becoming addicted to tobacco, British scientists have concluded that the best strategy is to avoid smoking cigarettes. Multiple large-scale studies on tobacco addiction have reached the same conclusion; whether in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia or even New Zealand, studies show that two thirds of participants continue to smoke after having tried a single cigarette.
The latest study, published in & Tobacco Research, shed light on the amount of people that become smokers after having tried a single cigarette. At least 3 out of 5 participants, 60.3%, were unable to stop smoking after a single cigarette. In addition, 68.9% of participants admitted to smoking every day.
The transition from trying a single cigarette to a daily smoking habit is extraordinary. Today, the dangers of tobacco dependence are clear. Researchers are hoping to spread this information to young people, who they hope will be more conscious of tobacco risks. However, Professor Peter Hajek, a lead researcher at Queen Mary University, rejects a link between daily tobacco use and vaping. Indeed, only a tiny minority of non-smokers who try e-cigarettes become regular vapers. On the other hand, many more non-smokers who try traditional cigarettes become addicted to tobacco, and often end up smoking daily.
