All that remains is a blackened shop window and a pile of charred merchandise at the Smookiestore in Vitry. The store, located near the RER station, was set on fire by two men. The motive is unclear, and the two arsonists got away.

This events took place on February 27 at some time between 10:20am and 1pm on Avenue Paul-Vaillant-Couturier in Vitry. According to what the owner of Smookistore told the police, two masked men entered the store. They forced the owner, who was alone at the time, to kneel, and proceeded to cover the ground in gasoline. The owner, thinking that the two men were going to kill him, managed to escape. The two men then set fire to the room and fled on a scooter.

“Usually a quiet neighbourhood”

The electronic cigarette and hookah store had only been open for two weeks. Although it hadn’t even started accepting customers, arsonists had already tried to attack it in December.

Other vendors in the Vitry neighbourhood were shocked to learn of the events. It is a calm neighbourhood, they say, and this is the first time anything like this has happened. The investigation was entrusted to SDPJ 94 and is just beginning. For now, it is impossible to know the perpetrators’ motives.

All we know is that the ruined store also served as a depot for another department store. The damage done could very well reach over 100,000 Euros.
