Are e-cigarettes more ecological than tobacco?

More and more smokers are investing in electronic cigarettes. Although most start vaping to help curb their smoking habit, some vapers are also interested in saving money. Better yet, vaping is less harmful to the planet than conventional cigarettes.

Although it is not considered a form of medical treatment, vaping is an efficient alternative to traditional tobacco. For this reason, the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products admits that the e-cigarette is an excellent way to quit smoking. However, recent laws have been challenging such methods, such as the vaping ban in public places since October 1, 2017. Indeed, authorities have been equating electronic cigarettes with tobacco, even though no scientific study has been able to demonstrate vaping’s toxic effects.

ecologicalToo many smokers discard their cigarette butts in nature. It’s important to note that a single cigarette butt can pollute 400 litres of water by itself; butts also take 12 years to disintegrate! Clearly, with the electronic cigarette there is no such risk. E-cigarettes don’t leave empty cigarette packs, papers, or filters in their wake. In addition, e-cigarettes contain none of the 3,500 chemical compounds present in traditional cigarettes, chemicals known to be carcinogenic. Consequently, vapour created by electronic cigarettes does not contain polluting particles. The electronic cigarette also does not emit any additional carbon dioxide, apart from C02 that is naturally generated, of course.

Doubts surrounding ecology and vaping

The electronic cigarette is not for single use, which is a major advantage of its sustainabbility. And while it does require a battery, the battery can be recycled once its used up. Instead of throwing it in the garbage, simply bring it back to a vape shop! The other question is with e-liquids, and they should be chosen carefully in order to guarantee quality products. Finally, there’s proof that new technologies and an ecological approach can be combined!
