CBD to help alleviate symptoms of autism?

Cannabidiol is fast becoming a focal point in scientific research. Also known as CBD, this particular cannabinoid, present in cannabis plants, is already an active ingredient in a number of medical products. A vast research programme is on the horizon to determine the potential of cannabidiol in treating the symptoms of autism.

The  Ray & Tye Noorda Foundation has just made a 4.7 million dollar donation to help further research in this field. Teams at the San Diego campus of the University of California will be studying the medical potential of these components. The multidisciplinary research team will be focusing on understanding the role that CBD can play in treating autism.

According to the American CDC, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects 1 in 45 newborns on a global scale. The goal of the research is to better understand the way medicinal cannabis works on human physiology. In doing so, specific applications may come to light that could help autistic patients in a therapy setting.

CBD could become a new therapeutic tool

When it comes to therapy, Medicinal cannabis has great potential in specific cases. Researchers are looking into how this could help subjects with serious symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Extensive research will have to be carried out to come to reliable conclusions in this complicated issue.

associationCBD is already in use in the therapeutic field for patients suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. The FDA has also recently approved a cannabidiol-based medication to help epileptic patients manage their difficult symptoms.

Using an e-cigarette device to consume CBD in measured doses has already been tried and tested. Cannabidiol is non-toxic and has a range of potentially therapeutic effects. University of California scientists will now need to prove that this all-natural product can bring a measure of help to those suffering from autism.
