 A new study advocates vaping

Although the electronic cigarette is already seen as a useful device to help wean smokers off tobacco, it is much more than that, too. A recent British study confirms that even smokers who are initially not interested in vaping often end up convinced of its effectiveness.

Such statements are based on a study of forty e-cigarette users who used to smoke cigarettes. They reported on their struggles to quit smoking and their experience with various vaping devices.

Vaping: an eye-opening experience for smokers

Despite popular belief, not all smokers begin using the electronic cigarette because they want to quit smoking. 17% of the smokers surveyed in the study first tried the e-cigarette out of curiosity, but ultimately ended up adopting it. If, in the beginning, these “accidental vapers” were not trying to quit smoking, it appears that the electronic cigarette was quite convincing. The majority of them were simply interested in the study, while others had received e-cigarettes as a gift.

Much more than a simple experiment, use of the electronic cigarette in the study helped numerous smokers wean themselves off of cigarettes. According to Caitlin Notley, the primary researcher of the study, the data proves just how effective e-cigarettes can be as a method to quit smoking.Indeed, Notley recognizes the potential of vaping as “a viable long term substitute” to cigarette addiction.

Some people still argue that the e-cigarette is addictive, especially due to the presence of nicotine in e-liquids. Nonetheless, is it not better to exchange smoking for vaping, which is much less harmful than traditional cigarettes? Ten years after e-cigarettes first hit the market, the debate continues, despite the fact that numerous studies have shown the benefits of vaping.

And while it comes down to each individual to decide whether or not to quit smoking, trying out electronic cigarettes does not pose any significant risks. The worst-case scenario? Smokers remain unconvinced and keep smoking cigarettes. The best-case scenario? E-cigarettes drastically reduce cigarette consumption, and help smokers stop smoking altogether.
