E-cigarette: a cure for high blood pressure

Scientific studies have shown that the electronic cigarette may help reduce the risk of heart disease in former smokers. We also now know that by picking up the e-cigarette, former smokers can also reduce their arterial tension. Such was the finding in a recent article published in the Internal and Emergency Medicine journal.

Although smoking cigarettes increases the risk of developing cardiovascular issues, vaping appears to be much less harmful. While some may remain skeptical of this smoking alternative, the science seems to confirm just how safe the e-cigarette really is. Numerous studies have show that the smoke created by tobacco combustion causes various illnesses. Vapour from vaping, on the other hand, contains no tobacco or smoke, only the vapour produced by heated-up e-liquids.

Doctors Farsalinos and Polosa also looked for evidence about the positive effects of vaping for former smokers. For this study, they compared smokers, vape users, and people who both smoked and vaped. The group of e-cigarette users was divided into three sub-groups, according to the concentration of nicotine in their e-liquids.

Enough hindsight to confirm vaping’s benefits

After one year of research, Polosa and Farsalinos’ team arrived at significant and positive results for those considering switching to the e-cigarette. Amongst participants who had high blood pressure, using a vaping device considerably helped to reduce blood pressure.

These results were observed amongst smokers who also used vaping devices, as well as former smokers who recently adopted the e-cigarette. The reduction in hypertension was even greater amongst participants who used higher levels of nicotine in their e-liqiuds, further proof that despite the criticism, e-liquids containing nicotine are in fact good for health.

This new study confirms the results of a study done in 2007 by Merinoff. In the study, researchers suspected that it was not nicotine that was harmful to health, but rather the smoke inhaled. Polosa and Farsalinos’ findings are further proof that the electronic cigarette is a legitimate and safe alternative to smoking tobacco.
