This young woman has a super power:
The video blew up on Reddit a few days ago under the subreddit “WTF.”
You don’t see this kind of thing every day, and it’s because this young woman probably has had a myringotomy surgical procedure in her eardrums. The procedure requires surgically inserting small tubes into the ears in order to improve flow between the Eustachian tubes, which connect the middle ear to the nasopharynx. The operation is generally performed for people who have recurrent and severe ear infections.
Valsalva manoeuver
The Valsalva manoeuver, which is named after its inventor, Antonion Maria Valsalva, is a way to balance the pressure between the outer and middle ears (for example, when scuba diving or flying in an airplane). You have probably done it before: plug your nostrils and blow out of your nose, which often leads to a popping sound in the ears. The combination of this maneuver and the surgical procedure mentioned above are what allow the young woman to vape through her ears.
The party trick, however, is not without its risks. Smoke is bad for the mucous membranes in the ear, and children exposed to second-hand smoking have more ear infections than normal. In terms of vaping, however, it is no surprise that no studies have been done on the potentially harmful effects of vape inside the eardrum.Consequently, and since there is no information on the subject, the best precaution is to avoid vaping out of your ears…
