[TEST] The Crown IV and it’s massive airflow
Vaping veterans will know about Crown. The first model of this name is legendary in the atomiser game and was known for the crown-shaped design around the coil.
With version IV, UWELL is hoping to capitalize on the success of the original, given the intermediate designs were not as popular as the first Crown.
First observation, the Crown IV is a BIG atomiser. With a diameter of 25 mm, which can be extended to 28 depending on the tank, it is a hefty machine. And it delivers accordingly. Thankfully, its capacity is on par with its extra size with 6 ml of e-liquid!
Some like it big
The airflow seems to have the same philosophy with three oblong air vents that, when opened fully, create no restriction at all. As a result, the vapour flow is impressive, particularly for a non-rebuildable atomiser. The SS coils used on this beast clock in at 0.2 and 0.4 ohm for vaping in the 60 – 80W range. Ramp-up time (the time it takes to reach indicated temperature) is rather long, so the Crown IV is more suited to a box chipset with variable power functions, with custom curves for example.
Surprisingly, coils are simply slotted into the sealed compartment rather than screwed. So far, this has not caused any leaks or issues. We can also note that there is only a 510 drip tip. Given the significant airflow and power range, an 810 drip top would have been welcome. It is through the tip that the tank is filled, accessible with a quarter-turn sliding mechanism.
Good price, good flavour
The Crown IV was designed for cloud-chasing—that much is obvious. As a result, the flavour it provides is nothing to write home about. For flavour-chasers, we recommend an MTL device or the rebuildable segment. However, at 40€ the Crown IV is good value for money, a choice atomiser for those who enjoy cloud-chasing without building their own coils.
