The German trade fair Intertabac opens its doors to the vaping industry
Largely unknown to the general public, the annual Intertabac salon has been an important part of the industry for over 40 years. Indeed, it is the international leader in tobacco trade fairs. With 652 expositions from 54 different countries, Intertabac 2018 covered all the various stages and forms of tobacco-related products and their development.
The organizers have been applauded for their efforts and the success of this year’s edition, most notably for reaching a more global audience for the 40th anniversary.
This year also highlighted vaping and the electronic cigarette, which found its place at the trade fair in three 3 dedicated halls. There were of course a few big names in these vaping halls, including V’APE, French Liquid and “Vincent dans les Vapes.”
On the hardware side, Innokin was there, as was Smoketch, and Justfog.
A major rise in vaping in Germany
It might seem surprising to see such an interest in vaping in the middle of a trade fair for tobacco products. However, as we mentioned in a recent article, the vaping market in Germany has grown by over 40% this year. Analysts estimate that vaping might become a half-a-billion Euro industry in 2019, for just a population of 82 million inhabitants. For example, in Dortmund alone (the location of the trade fair), 31 vaping shops are listed on Yelp, which has sparked the interest of certain tobacco manufacturers like Philip Morris’ Iqos and Japan Tobacco’s Ploom device.
Following the end of the trade fair, the event organizers announced that 90% of visitors plan to come back for the 2019 edition. Blog-Vape will be there as well, and is crossing its fingers for a fourth dedicated vaping hall!
