[TEST] Artery Pal II, an excellent hybrid pod system!
Pods are all the rage on the vaping market. They come in all shapes and sizes, in any style imaginable, and deliver all kinds of flavour and flow. Artery‘s Pal II is getting in on this lucrative market with its new pod device. An interesting and innovative design with a few drawbacks.
The Pal II delivers both MTL and DTL vaping thanks to its two coil types. While the 1.2 ohm coil may be a surprising choice for those used to pod systems, the 0.6 ohm, does the job very well.
Vapour is thick and rich, and it makes you wonder how such a small machine can deliver such dense vapour without draining the battery. Vapour is strong, and lasts a while.
When it comes to style, it is most definitely a manly e-cig. The streamlined aluminium frame, and the ring around the firing button, provide a certain sense of class. It is also the only button on the device, and as usual you can press it 5 times to turn the e-cig on or off, while a LED indicator will tell you the battery charge.
A lot going on under the hood
Locked under two magnets (that are too strong compared to the glue holding them in place), you will find the beating heart of the Pal II: a large, refillable pod where you only need to swap coils. So the Pal II is a great way to save money. If only it weren’t so infuriatingly difficult to get the pod out of the device.
The coil can be removed by unscrewing it from the pod tank, and then from the airflow system (it is located between the two), via a ring at the back of the coil. Unfortunately, it’s a bit tricky to handle. If you try unscrew the coil while in the pod, the ring will spin in the frame, and it you do it once the coil is out, it becomes difficult to tighten.
Another negative point is how difficult it is to check your e-liquid level. The pod is translucent, but not enough to really see the liquid level without placing it in a beam of light. Of course, if you really ned to know, you can check if there are a few drops left by turning the Pal II upside down. But in doing so, a little pool of e-liquid will fill the oblong drip tip and no-one likes a surprise mouthful of e-juice.
Despite this, the vape is so pleasant and the device so effective that you can overlook its few flaws. Costing only 30 or so Euros, the Pal II stands apart without ruining your budget.
