Without a doubt, the United Kingdom is the most vape-friendly country in the world. Moreover, in recent years, there has been some spectacular progress in the fight against tobacco. In 2017, 400,000 people quit smoking in the UK, which translates to one person every 80 seconds!
This is a major success for the public health agency Public Health England, which has inspired other anti-smoking campaigns to encourage smokers to turn towards vaping. In the last few years, 63% of smokers who adopted the e-cigarette were able to completely quit smoking tobacco.
Since 2014, over one million British smokers have given up smoking. And although there are still 6 million smokers in the United Kingdom, Public Health England estimates that one out of six smokers are still hoping to quit. The agency is convinced that smokers have a better chance of reducing their cigarette consumption with a vaping device.
Vaping: a worthy solution
Amongst all of the strategies that can help wean people off of tobacco, in the United Kingdom, vaping is clearly the most efficient. As of today, there are 3 million regular e-cigarette users in the UK. Amongst them, 52% have been able to completely quit tobacco. More than anything else, such a resounding success must be attributed to the hard work carried out by public health agencies, as well as political support.
In the United States the FDA denounces the supposed dangers of the e-cigarette; in the UK, Public Health England highlights the e-cig’s many benefits. The agency bases its opinions on numerous independent studies that all arrive at the same conclusion: vaping is “95% less harmful” than traditional cigarettes.
Public Health England uses numerous TV commercials to encourage smokers to try the e-cigarette. Most British politicians also support e-cigarettes as a safe and effective nicotine substitute.
